Today we:

  • Identified all the notes we have learned so far in our keyboards- sang along with their names!
  • Learned new note B
  • Practiced and learned “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
  • Performed our song individually and then altogether as a group for stickers!

Beginning Violins 3:15

Today we:

  • Identified our open D and A strings with our bows
  • Remembered our first finger E and Second finger F#
  • Learned our third finger note G
  • Began learning the first measures of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
  • Played a game to fix teachers violin posture and bow hold!

Advanced Violins 3:45

Today we:

  • Started class by playing Jingle Bells all together
  • Reviewed our string crossing techniques 
  • Reviewed our fingerings 
  • Learned our third finger G and our first finger B 
  • Brown books began working on Old Mc Donald and Yellow books continued working on the Spring Theme from the Four Seasons

Today we:

  • Played Simon Says to practice following directions
  • Practiced “Bumper Cars” by saying the letters and fingering in the air
  • Played “Bumper Cars” while saying the letters
  • Reviewed how to read C & D without the letters written on the notes (C for Cat (whiskers) and D for Dog).
  • Named the notes for “Bad News Bears” and played as a class
  • Named the notes for “Skateboard Sam” and played as a class, students volunteered to play solos
  • Introduced our new note G (played with 5th finger) and located it on our keyboards

Beginning Piano 3:15

Today we:

  • Practiced our five finger pattern (CDEFG) in a round 
  • Reviewed how to read C, D, and G without the letters written on the notes (C for Cat (whiskers) and D for Dog)
  • Reviewed measures and time signatures
  • Reviewed how to play a dotted half note and played “Puppy Dog”
  • Students volunteered to play “Mary Had a Little Lamb” solos
  • Introduced the new note F and treble clef note names (Every Good Burger Deserves Fries for line notes and FACE for space notes)

 

Homework: Practice “Skateboard Sam” (pg. 5), “Let’s Play Catch” (pg 6), “Puppy Dog” (pg. 7) and “Mary Had a Little Lamb” pg. 10. Practice naming notes on the staff on pg. 11. Remember to bring instruments and books to class on Thursday.

Today we:

  • Played through Three Little Birds with recording
  • Reviewed the chord pattern for “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” and played with the recording
  • Introduced treble clef note names (Every Good Burger Deserves Fries for line notes and FACE for space notes)

Beginning Winds 4:15

Today we:

  • Played through pg. 2 & 3 in the book
  • Reviewed our third note (D for Sax, F for Flute, C for Pbone) and played #10 and #11
  • Introduced our 4th note (A for Sax, C for Flute, G for Pbone) and practiced switching fingers
  • Played “Old MacDonald” on pg 15 and introduced 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and counting for eighth notes. Played “Stodola Pumpa” and reviewed 1st & 2nd endings (Pbone)

 

Homework: Practice long tones, pg. 2-4 & #12 on pg. 5, tonguing to start each note. Practice counting on pg. 12 and note naming for #25 on pg. 13 (Pbone only). Remember to bring your instrument and book to class every Thursday.

  • Reviewed our notes! Remembered how to reach our A note with our fifth finger

Kindergarten Piano 2:45

  • We learned quarter notes and rests by clapping and saying “Shh” on rests.
  • We played C-D-E-F-G on our keyboards.
  • We rehearsed as an orchestra and tried to play all at the same time.
  • We also learned Hot Cross Buns on the black keys and almost had enough time to use the funny sound effects.

Today we:

  • Found out how important it is to play as a group.
  • Played a basic song on repeat: (C-D-E-F, G ).
    • We numbered off, and did that short song on repeat while listening to each other to try to line up the beats.
    • When we play together we have to listen across the room and make sure everything lines up!

Today we:

  • Practiced changing chords F-C,
    • We tried it faster and backwards (C-F), 
  • we sang/played Yellow Submarine
  • we sang/played the Hokey Pokey with C7 (and actually did the hokey pokey while singing and playing),
  • we also took a look ahead to the A Minor chord and G chord.
  • Finally we sang and played the chorus of Three Little Birds

  • all learned and played 2 notes- concert D and Eb-
  • we tried a long note exercise to see how long they could hold a note for (Devon 13, Lincoln 13, Aeryona 6, Iyan 3.5).
  • we discussed some tricks to hold the note even longer and I challenged them to get a few extra seconds by practicing at home.
  • we looked at pages 1-3 in the books.

* Ended the class by singing a solfege exercise

* Played and differentiated the ‘white keys’ from ‘black keys’
* Identified the “C” and sang along to it 
* Went over posture and hand position
* Identified the D and E notes 
* Started Learning how to play and sing along to ‘Hot Cross Buns’

  • Practiced an advanced technique by plucking the A string and fingering Open-1-2-3-4
