Piano 1:45

  • We got to page 21 where we tried playing a song with both right AND left hand!
     
  • It’s important that every student practices this, especially Lefty Two Note on page 23.
     
  • We went over the left hand positioning (TWO white keys in between both hands’ thumbs), and how to play G and low C with the left hand (thumb and pinky)!
     
  • In Lefty Two Note, the left hand holds those two notes for four beats, while the right hand plays the melody line.

  • Homework: pages 21, 22, and 23; if you’ve mastered all that, try page 18 for a challenge
     
 

Piano 2:20

  • We played a bit of This Old Man on page 18, which is challenging but sounding good.
  • Most importantly, we went on to page 21 to look at playing with both left AND right hand at the same time!
  • The focus of class was page 23, with Lefty Two Note.
  • In Lefty Two Note, the left hand holds those two notes for four beats, while the right hand plays the melody line.

Winds 2:55

  • During class, we did our warm-up of Notes Without Letters, and went on to Crazy Tonguing (as we did last week).
  • We finally played the song Yankee Doodle Cha Cha pretty well (still needs some practice though) and then the Cabbage Song on page 14!
  • For us to make progress as a class, I need everyone practicing at home at least two or three times during the week! (Hopefully for 15 to 20 minutes each time at least.)

Keyboards 3:30

  • In class, we played More Snake Charmer, which is sounding really good now.
  • We went on to page 55 — Ode To Joy — which is a fun one. 
  • Then we tried playing the song Jingle Bells on page 66. Please write in the notes for the second page and practice each hand — then play the song with BOTH hands!!
  • Lastly we discussed songs for us to start working on for after the Thanksgiving break.
  • Homework: page 55, 52, 51, 50, and 66-67

  • In class, we reviewed our eighth notes, then went on to playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star all together. It’s sounding better!

  • We worked on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and then the tough This Old Man. 
  • Finally, we started on playing songs using the right AND left hand! Make sure there’s two white keys in between both hands’ thumbs.

  • During class, I saw a bit of improvement with being able to play our basic notes and with playing together as a group. Keep up the practice!!

What we practiced this week- October 24th

Piano/Violin 1:45

  • Good playing on Tuesday! We worked on keeping our hand in the correct playing position so that we can use all five of our fingers to easily play our pieces.
  • Homework: practice pages 8, 9, 10 and 11! If that is easy, go on to page 12 for the fast eighth-note rhythms!
 

Piano 2:20

  • Great job keyboards! In class we were able to get up to page 13 with the eighth note rhythms!
  • Homework: pages 10-14; really focus on the eighth note rhythms for Spring Theme!
 

Winds 2:55

  • It seems like we are making some decent progress in our winds class! Keep practicing your notes (flutes especially — it is hard to remember all finger positions without enough practice); and try playing Hot Cross Buns and Mary Had a Little Lamb at home.

  • HW is to practice their instrument set-up to see who can set it up the best and fastest next week! 
  • Keep working on making great first sounds so we can add notes week to week!
