What we practiced this week- February 15th

Piano 2:10

Today we:

  • continued working on reading rhythms be using TA and TI-TI.
  • It is important to try to keep the tempo as steady as possible when we are clapping!
  • Next we spent some time practicing how to identify different notes on the staff.
  • Last we worked out of our books and played song #9 on pg. 6.
  • This song helps us to work on alternating between playing with our thumb and pinkie.
  • Keep practicing the song for next time!
 

Piano 2:45

Today we:

  • reviewed how to make a good playing posture.
  • Remember that having a good posture will make it easier to take big breaths and to make a good sound!
  • We also worked on reading rhythms using TA and TI-TI then tried playing those rhythms on our instruments.
  • At the end of class we all did a call and response game to continue working on making a good sound and practicing our listening skills.

Kindergarten Violin 2:10

Today we:

  • Mississippi Stomp Stomp” on the E string 
  • work on pg. 6 in blue book. Focusing on getting long, smooth bows!
 

Beginning Violins 2:45

Today we:

  • worked on pg 11 in brown book – Mary had a little lamb with focus on using the whole bow for each note.

  • Warmed up with some call and response clapping.
  • Reviewed the two-step process to finding ‘C’.
  • Remember to look for the group of two black keys and go to the left!
  • Introduced a musical staff and the treble clef so we could see what ‘C’ looks like on paper.
  • Did call and response on the note ‘C’ and everyone in class had a chance to make their own rhythms.

  • Ended class with some basic breathing exercises. Keep practicing sustained notes with just the mouthpiece of the instrument!

– Played a call and response games with clapping and played “Poison Rhythm”. 
– Also learned how to find our first note of the piano ‘C’.

Today we:

– learned the proper way to open our cases to keep our instruments safe.
-Clarinets learned how to put together the mouthpiece of the instrument and made our first sounds.
-Flutes learned about proper positioning of the headjoint and worked on making a sound while closing off the air with the right hand. 

Beginning Violin 1:55

Today we:

  • Played a competition game where we split into groups and fixed our friends postures and bowholds’ … had a couple of winners!
  • Played and sand our open strings 
  • Played and remembered our first finger F#
  • Started practicing “I see a star” from our blue books
 

Beginning Violins 2:30

Today we:

  • Played “Musette” all together
  • Learned about the C major scale: sang it together at the piano and then practiced playing it with our finger formula at our keyboards 
  • Practiced and played “Are you Sleeping” from our books

Violin 3:00

Today we:

  • Practiced some slow exercises to get more familiar our third finger G, second finger F# on the D string 
  • Learned and understood “octaves” and how a note can exist in different places
  • Practiced slowly together through our challenging parts of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” 
 

Advanced Strings 3:30

Today we:

  • Warmed up with “Jingle Bells” in our yellow books
  • Practiced and learned the first couple of lines of “The Nutcracker March” in our green books
  • Learned and identified how to plate dotted eighth notes tied to sixteenth
