What we practiced this week- January 23rd

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • Please keep working on your 5 note scale,
  • practice putting your fingers all the way down on the finger tapes.
  • Also practice songs 25-27 on page 9!
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:
  • Keep working on G chord and finding it quickly.
  • You can also practice B flat chord in P.23, very tricky!
 

What we practiced this week- January 9th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  •  reviewed posture,
    • play position,
    • bow hold
  • reviewed our E (1st finger) on D string
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:
  • reviewed the C, F, Am, C7 and G chords
    practiced switching between C and F quickly and comfortably.

What we practiced this week- December 12th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed our bow hold
  • practiced our new E and F sharp notes on D string.
  • Please practice songs 25-27 this week
  • work on keeping a good plus sign with the bow!

Today we:
  • reviewed our chords
  • worked on our song “Bobcats Get Their Revenge”.
  • Please work on finding F and G chords quickly and comfortably!

What we practiced this week- December 5th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed E and F sharp on the D string
  • practiced finding a good bow hold and play position.
  • Please continue to work on songs 20-24, and try to get a nice full sound.

Today we:
  • reviewed G chord,
  • started writing our own song!
  • The chords (so far) are C, C7, F, F repeat!
  • Practice our new song this week!

What we practiced this week- November 28th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed our low E note (first finger on first tape of D string)
  • learned the note F sharp.
  • Please work on songs 22-25 this week!

Today we:
  • reviewed the G chord
  • learned how to read the A, B and C notes.
  • Work on finding chords quickly and comfortably!

What we practiced this week- November 14th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed good bow holds, 
  • practiced the mississippi hot dog rhythm on all four open strings. 
  • practiced playing the low E note with our first finger down on D string, 
  • practiced songs 20-21 on page 8. 
  • Please practice page 8 and keep working on getting that first finger in place!

Today we:
  • reviewed our chords and played Are You Strumming, Eleanor Rigby, Three Little Birds, and Malagueña.
  • Please practice finding the G chord, and practice Ain’t Too Proud to Beg on page 14!

What we practiced this week- November 7th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • practiced silent see-saw
  • learned how to play our songs on page 6 with our bows.
  • listened carefully to the orchestra to make sure our notes line up together
  • Please work on Page 8, adding our first finger to the D string to produce the note E
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:
  • reviewed our ukulele chords
    • G chord is the hardest one in the book
  • Sang Happy Birthday to Eleanor 🙂
    • C-F-G chords for Happy Birthday
  • played Three Little Birds and sang along
  • looked at Aint too Proud to beg, but it was unfamiliar
    • please listen to the track below, and play along!

What we practiced this week- October 31st

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • worked in play position and plucking,
  • learned song #16, leap frog.
  • reviewed how to hold our bow loosely, and practiced the silent seesaw.
  • played Mississippi Hot Dog on every string allowing out elbow to move as we changed strings.
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:
  • reviewed the C, F and C7 chords
  • learned Am and G
  • played Hokey Pokey and Eleanor Rigby
  • Keep practicing the G chord, and use tall curved fingers for a good sound!

What we practiced this week- October 24th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed rest, ready, and play position
  • discussed our bow hold and bow wrists
    • practice your bow elevator!
  • used the bow to hold a really long note! 
    • pull the bow slowly from frog to tip until the bow falls off the strings
  • read pages 2-6 in our brown books!
    • watch out for rests and changing notes.
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:

  • learned two new chords, C7 and A minor
    • C7 can only be used when a song calls for it, but C can be used in place of C7
    • Minor chords are darker spookier chords, perfect for Halloween!
  • sang, played, and danced the Hokey Pokey
  • play along to Eleanor Rigby and the Hokey Pokey below!

What we practiced this week- October 17th

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
  • reviewed rest ready and play position, as well as how to pluck our instruments.
  • began working on page 2 on the brown book.
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:

  • reviewed plucking and strumming, our four strings and the C and F chords.
  • also learned the first two songs (pgs. 5-6) from the Ukulele Book.

What we practiced this week- October 3rd

Beginning Strings 3:30

Today we:
Talked about the parts of the instrument, rest ready and play position, and how to pluck the strings (thumb in corner for violin, thumb on side of fingerboard for cello. We also learned the D A D song
 

Ukulele 4:10

Today we:
talked about plucking and strumming, our four strings, and we learned the C and F chords. We also started working on pages 6 and 7 of the Ukulele for kids book.
