Whether your child is a total beginner or already has some experience, our program is open to all students interested in learning to play woodwind, brass, or string instruments. Small group classes are appropriately organized by age, instrument, and ability, ensuring each student receives personalized instruction from our talented and supportive teachers.

Throughout the 2026 semester program, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony, and traditional note reading, all while playing familiar songs that they love. In the spring, these smaller groups will come together to form a larger ensemble, culminating in a memorable year-end concert.

Not only will your child build lifelong musical skills and confidence, they’ll also have a blast learning an instrument and performing alongside their friends. Enroll today for our Orchestra program and watch as they discover the joy of making music!

Instruments

Kindergarten and First graders may choose the violin (Violins are sized to fit each individual student)
Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, or trumpet
All levels welcome. No experience required!

Schedule

Orchestra Schedule Overview

Start Date: Monday, February 9, 2026
Final Class and SPRING CONCERT: June 2026 TBD
Lesson Day: Weekly on Mondays (classes are scheduled after-school between 2:45 PM – 4:45 PM)
Lesson Format: Small group instruction | 35–40 minute classes, culminating in a year-end concert

General Class Timeframe (for your planning purposes)

Grades K–1 Beginning Violin: Scheduled directly after the dismissal bell from 2:45 PM – 3:25 PM (K-1 Students not in aftercare must be picked up immediately after class.)
Grades 2–5 Beginning Violin: 3:25 PM – 4:05 PM
Grades 2–5 Beginning Winds (Flute, Clarinet, or Trumpet): 4:05 PM – 4:45 PM

Please Note:

Final class times will be emailed prior to the first day of classes and are based on enrollment, instrument, and skill level. We recommend keeping the full time block from 2:45–5:00PM available on Mondays until schedules are confirmed.
Students with later classes should plan to attend an aftercare program before and/or after their music class (e.g., STAR, Beyond the Bell), or they can go home and return for their assigned time.
If you order an instrument from our supplier (link below), it will be delivered to school on the first day and given to your child at their first class.

Orchestra Program Costs

There is no program fee required to participate but space is limited. Funding for instruction is provided by Pomelo Community Charter School.

Enrollment is limited so please register below as soon as possible to reserve your spot in the orchestra!

Parent Volunteers needed

A parent volunteer is needed to assist with administrative logistics each week on Mondays after school. Please email us at Contact@TheOrchestraPlace.com if you’re available each week and interested in being our parent volunteer. Parent volunteers may need to be approved by the district if they are requesting to volunteer at an LAUSD school.

Additional Resources

All sheet music, method books, and basic supplies will be provided to your child throughout the year.

Each student will also have access to a customized Class Portal, which includes weekly class recaps, practice assignments, practice tips, downloadable sheet music, play along tracks, helpful video tutorials, and more.

Private Lessons - Optional

Our weekly group classes alone provide a sufficient amount of instruction throughout the year to ensure age-appropriate proficiency and an enriching musical experience. Private lessons are an additional opportunity for our motivated students who want more personalized guidance to support their goals or wish to progress at an accelerated pace.

Private Lesson Details:

Designed to complement group lessons.
Scheduled directly with your child’s assigned teacher.
Lessons take place either at school (after all classes have concluded) or at your home, based on family preference and teacher availability. Home lessons may require an additional travel fee determined by your private teacher.
Private teachers will be assigned several weeks after the program begins, giving students time to establish fundamentals before starting one-on-one instruction.
Billed automatically as each pre-paid block is completed.

This program is designed to keep music fun, so students should expect to play many fun songs on their instruments, in addition to learning how music works. Smaller group classes will come together at the end of the year, culminating with a final year-end concert!

Terms and Conditions*
I hereby enroll my child in the school instrumental music program. Learning an instrument is a commitment in which I will support by encouraging my child to attend each week and establishing a regular practice routine at home. I understand that there are no refunds after the third week of class or if a class is cancelled due to circumstances beyond The Orchestra Place's control. A minimum number of students is required to hold a class and if a particular class is cancelled due to low enrollment, the student will be issued a full refund. In addition, if the host school limits The Orchestra Place's ability to provide on campus instruction, classes will quickly pivot to an online environment, and those who can no longer participate will receive a provide a pro-rated refund.

I understand that regular attendance is very important and that three or more unexcused absences may result in my child being dropped from the program.

I also hereby recognize the importance of having a good, quality, working instrument and understand that my child must have an instrument brand name listed on the approved brands list in order to participate. Inferior quality instruments are not acceptable for use in the music program.

Because of the nature of a free program paid for by the school, orchestra students must maintain their academics or they will not be allowed to participate. The orchestra program requires a one year commitment spanning the entire 2025– 2026 school year (September 2025– May 2026) and regular home practice.

I also hereby grant to The Orchestra Place, its sponsors, organizers, and/or assigns The Orchestra Place the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use and publish photographs (including video photography and performance) of my child, or in which my child may be included, for publication, electronic reproductions (websites) and/or promotional materials or any other purpose and in any manner or medium. In addition, I grant my permission to alter the same without restriction; and to copyright the same. I hereby release the photographer and The Orchestra Place from all claims and liability relating to said photographs.
