Course Description:
Welcome to Orchestra!
All levels are welcome and prior experience is not required!
Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to introduce your child to the world of music? Look no further than our Orchestra program!
No matter your child’s experience level, our program welcomes all students who are interested in learning how to play woodwind, brass, or string instrument. With our small group classes tailored to students’ ages and abilities, they’ll receive personalized attention and instruction from our talented and experienced teachers.
Throughout the 2023-24 Orchestra Program, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony, and traditional note reading, all while playing familiar songs that they love. Smaller groups will come together to form a larger ensemble, culminating in an unforgettable year-end concert.

Instruments
- Third and Fourth graders may choose the violin, flute, clarinet, or trumpet.
Schedule
Instruction begins on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, and runs through the entire school year, culminating in a year-end Spring Concert.
Forty-five minute small group lessons will be held once per week after school on Wednesdays between 2:20 PM and 3:50 PM. Please keep that time block free on Wednesday. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment.
Class Schedule:
- Violin Classes are offered to all 3rd and 4th graders on Wednesdays from 2:20PM – 3:05PM
- Winds Classes (Flute, Clarinet, or Trumpet) are offered to all 3rd and 4th graders on Wednesdays from 3:05PM – 3:50PM
Program costs
There is no program fee required to participate but space is limited. Funding for instruction is provided by Marvin Elementary.
Please register below and plan to rent your instrument prior to the first class.
Additional Resources
Sheet music, method books and basic supplies will be given to your child throughout the year.
Each student will also have access to a customized Class Portal, where they will receive weekly class recaps, practice suggestions, sheet music downloads, helpful video tutorials, and much more!
The only other expense will be the rental or purchase of the instrument (see below).
Private Lessons - *Optional*
Enhance Your Child’s Musical Journey with Personalized Private Lessons!
Our group lessons alone will provide your student with a sufficient amount of instruction throughout the school year to become proficient at their chosen instrument, as well as provide an enriching musical experience.
Designed to complement our group sessions, these optional private lessons offer tailored guidance which caters to individual aspirations and accelerates progress.
Duration: Ongoing – Charged automatically as your pre-paid lesson blocks are completed.
Private Lesson Fee:
- Block of FOUR, 30-minute lessons : $192 – scheduled directly with your teacher on a weekly basis
- Block of TWO, 30-minute lessons : $96 – scheduled directly with your teacher every other week
Honor Orchestra
Students who play violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet or trombone may be eligible to participate in the All Schools Elementary Honor Orchestra at UCLA. In addition to experienced players, there will be a limited number of first year players allowed as the orchestra is rebuilt after a pandemic induced hiatus.
