Course Description:

Welcome to Violin Ensemble!

All levels are welcome and prior experience is not required!

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to introduce your child to the world of music? Look no further than our Orchestra program!

No matter your child’s experience level, our program welcomes all students who are interested in learning how to play the violin. With our small group classes tailored to students’ ages and abilities, they’ll receive personalized attention and instruction from our talented and experienced teachers.

Throughout the 2024 Spring Semester Program, your child will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony, and traditional note reading, all while playing familiar songs that they love. Smaller groups will come together to form a larger ensemble, culminating in an unforgettable spring concert.

Instruments

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Graders may choose the VIOLIN this semester.

***We are excited to add woodwinds and brass instruments to the orchestra next year for the 2024-25 School Year!

Schedule

Instruction begins on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, and runs through the entire spring semester.

30-45 minute small group lessons will be held once per week after school on Wednesdays between 2:40 PM and 4:40 PM. Please keep that time block free on Wednesday. This flexibility in scheduling will allow us to create classes best suited for the enrollment.

After enrollment is complete, we will announce the final schedule and location of classes via email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Once the schedule is available, please have your child’s schedule clear for their assigned time block. Students waiting to take a later lesson may opt to go home with parents and then return to school at lesson time. Or, contact the school regarding available campus supervision for students waiting to take their lesson.

Program costs

There is no program fee required to participate but space is limited. Funding for instruction and classroom violin is provided by generous grants and donations. Donations are gratefully appreciated and can be made out to the “Calvert Charter For Enriched Studies”.

Additional Resources

Sheet music, method books and basic supplies will be given to your child throughout the year.

Each student will also have access to a customized Class Portal, where they will receive weekly class recaps, practice suggestions, sheet music downloads, helpful video tutorials, and much more!

This is our flagship orchestra program. Students will be grouped in classes of similar instruments and will learn how to play their desired woodwind, brass, or string instrument. This program is designed to keep music fun, so students should expect to play many fun songs on their instruments, in addition to learning how music works. Smaller group classes will come together at the end of the year, culminating with a final year-end concert!

LCS Orchestra Program (Full Year)*
This is our flagship orchestra program. Students will be grouped in classes of similar instruments and will learn how to play their desired woodwind, brass, or string instrument. This program is designed to keep music fun, so students should expect to play many fun songs on their instruments, in addition to learning how music works. Smaller group classes will come together at the end of the semester, culminating with a final year-end concert!
LCS Orchestra Program (Semester)*

This program is designed to keep music fun, so students should expect to play many fun songs on their instruments, in addition to learning how music works. Smaller group classes will come together at the end of the semester, culminating with a final year-end performance!

Selma Larchmont Charter Participants*

The amount is $575 for the entire school year program, or make 2 payments of $315 each: your first payment when you register and your second payment on or before December 1st, 2023.

I hereby enroll my child in the school instrumental music program. Learning an instrument is a commitment in which I will support by encouraging my child to attend each week and establishing a regular practice routine at home. I understand that there are no refunds after the third week of class or if a class is cancelled due to circumstances beyond The Orchestra Place's control. A minimum number of students is required to hold a class and if a particular class is cancelled due to low enrollment, the student will be issued a full refund. In addition, if the host school limits The Orchestra Place's ability to provide on campus instruction, classes will quickly pivot to an online environment, and those who can no longer participate will receive a provide a pro-rated refund.

I understand that regular attendance is very important and that three or more unexcused absences may result in my child being dropped from the program.

I also hereby recognize the importance of having a good, quality, working instrument and understand that my child must have an instrument brand name listed on the approved brands list in order to participate. Inferior quality instruments are not acceptable for use in the music program.

Because of the nature of a free program paid for by the school, orchestra students must maintain their academics or they will not be allowed to participate. The orchestra program requires a one year commitment spanning the entire 2023– 2024 school year (September 2023– May 2024) and regular home practice.

I also hereby grant to The Orchestra Place, its sponsors, organizers, and/or assigns The Orchestra Place the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use and publish photographs (including video photography and performance) of my child, or in which my child may be included, for publication, electronic reproductions (websites) and/or promotional materials or any other purpose and in any manner or medium. In addition, I grant my permission to alter the same without restriction; and to copyright the same. I hereby release the photographer and The Orchestra Place from all claims and liability relating to said photographs.

We will comply with State, Local, and CDC guidelines on masking, social distancing, and follow directives from the school regarding our ability to hold in person classes. If the host school limits The Orchestra Place's ability to provide on campus instruction, we will automatically continue with classes, as scheduled, via online Zoom instruction.
